Find Help · Depression
You can be honest.
You deserve care.
You deserve care and companionship, even when hope feels far away. This page offers spiritual reflection, not a test of how strong your faith is.

What would help right now?
Begin with the short prayer in Psalm 42, or go straight to support. You do not need to finish reading before asking someone for help.
Scripture & a little space to reflect
Read the words.
Stay with a thought.
Start with Psalm 42:5. The Scripture is here to read straight away; the reflections beneath it are optional.
Psalm 42:5
World English Bible
Read in context: Psalm 42 (opens in a new tab)5 Why are you in despair, my soul?
Why are you disturbed within me?
Hope in God!
For I shall still praise him for the saving help of his presence.
The psalmist gives voice to a downcast soul and a longing for God. This prayer makes room for distress; it is not a demand to make yourself feel better.
Which words give you room to speak honestly about how things are?
Romans 8:38–39
World English Bible
Read in context: Romans 8:38–39 (opens in a new tab)38 For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,
39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from God’s love which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Paul writes about the enduring love of God in Christ.
What is it like to consider a love that is not measured by how you feel today?
These reflections are not a treatment for depression or a test of your faith. Professional support can sit alongside spiritual care. If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services.

From reading to real life
Room to be honest.
Room to receive care.
Name one need, let someone know, or ask for help arranging care. This is not a checklist or a test of hope.
A prayer when hope feels far awayWhat would support look like today?
You do not need to describe everything neatly or find a hopeful ending for this reflection. Begin with the part of today that feels hardest, or with the kind of company you would value.
“Today, it would help if…”
It might be someone listening, sitting with you, or helping with an everyday responsibility. You are not being asked to complete a checklist.
Let someone know how things are.
Let a trusted person know how things really are. Professional support can be part of the care you receive alongside spiritual support.
“I haven’t been doing well, and I’d like help with…”
This page offers spiritual reflection, not treatment. A qualified professional can help you explore appropriate care for your situation.
You can ask for more than one kind of help.
You can ask for company and practical help, such as arranging a GP appointment. Say what would help today, even if you do not have the energy to explain everything.
“I haven’t been doing well. Could you call me today and help me work out how to arrange some support?”

You deserve care, not a test of faith.
If you are experiencing symptoms of depression, a GP or qualified mental-health professional is a good place to seek help. You can ask someone you trust to help arrange an appointment or come with you.
Spiritual support can sit alongside treatment. Do not change prescribed medication because of a podcast or a reflection on this page.
